Areas of Work
Psychotherapy & Counselling
Rachel is a UKCP accredited psychotherapist, having met exacting standards of training and development. UKCP requirements are in excess of other UK membership associations.
Psychotherapy is a longer term process, focusing upon the structure of the self. Counselling is a shorter term process, often focused on a particular issue or difficulty. Some people do not see a difference between the two.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT is a useful and effective approach for some mental health issues, such as anxiety, phobias, OCD and intrusive thoughts. It involves challenging your thoughts, changing behaviours and often involves homework of some description. It is a NICE approved therapy treatment in the UK.
EMDR
EMDR is a trauma treatment, following an 8 stage protocol
If EMDR is right for you, you do not have to discuss your trauma in detail and usually 6-10 sessions are required. However this may vary depending upon the individual's history and experiences. For further information on EMDR visit EMDRUK's website.
My Approach
I offer a warm, non-judgemental and supportive therapy experience, where you are at the heart of the process.
I believe that change is possible, although this can be affected by environmental, social and cultural factors. I believe that we do the best we can and sometimes, we need a helping hand.
I have worked with women's issues throughout my therapy career and have extensive experience working with sexual and domestic violence.
